To return to your activities safely
Concussion, also known as mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), is a brain injury induced by a blow to the head or to another part of the body that moves the brain back and forth in the skull.
The most common symptoms are:
Physical symptoms: headaches and neck pain, nausea and dizziness, loss of balance, vision problems, sensitivity to light and noise, fatigue.
Cognitive symptoms: difficulty concentrating, reasoning and remembering, feeling sluggish, confused thinking, and searching for words.
Emotional symptoms: nervousness, anxiety, irritability, anger, sadness, emotional flatness.
Sleep disturbance: little or no sleep, lack of restful sleep, insomnia.
Symptoms of concussion usually resolve within 14 days in adults and four weeks in children and adolescents. However, concussion can persist beyond these norms in about 30% of people.
Why should you consult a physiotherapist?
- To identify the symptoms of your concussion and to know what to do to reduce these symptoms until they disappear completely.
- To implement strategies and to do specific relevant exercises in order to gradually resume your academic, professional and personal activities.
- To benefit from other treatment techniques, such as cervical manual therapy, which can help you manage headaches and neck pain.
